Children Nursery!  Each baby is unique

and individually designed during a three week process.  I have refined my technique using different color and painting methods to create lovely reborn babies, so lifelike you will not be able to stop picking them up or caressing their heads...repositioning them is also a "passing" fancy!

I begin the reborn process with a child's play doll.  After removing the head and limbs, I begin painting them on the inside to create a realistic skintone.  Toy dolls are machine stamped, therefore the thickness of the vinyl varies. This  will determine the number of times I must paint to achieve the desired skintone.

The outside is color-washed using a combination of acrylics and oils to neutralize the vinyl tones and complete the "human" effect.  This is done several times over a period of days.

Each baby is carefully blushed and toned, paying careful attention to every crease and wrinkle.  This hand painting creates the most realistic skin possible.  Each curve and fold is incredibly detailed! The plastic eyes given to toy dolls are replaced with sparkling glass eyes that look right into your heart!

After removing the factory paint, the babies are given hair...either yearling  mohair wigs, thinned and layered or hand-rooted human or angora mohair to create the effect of a wispy newborn's head.  This is a time consuming process, but certainly a labor of love. Hand painted, barely there eyebrows and upper lashes, trimmed & wisped are applied or hand-rooted.

Their noses and sometimes mouths are sculpted open so they can "breathe" and backed with felt to match skintones.  Sometimes magnets are used for pacifiers.  Their lips are tinted or highlighted and glossed over.  Their finger and toenails have been carefully tipped for a neutral real-baby effect with a permanent non-peeling finish.

Each baby weighs between 4 lbs, 3 ozs. and 6 lbs. 14 ozs. and they range in height from 18 to 22 inches.  This careful proportioning really adds to their realism and makes them look and feel like newborn babies!
