My name is Katie Laing and I live in Oceanside, California.  I have been working with children

for thirty years in many different capacities.  As the oldest of five, I ended up loving

babysitting,  teaching school,  developing and operating a day care center for newborns for

fifteen years, and being a foster parent to two.  I have raised three sons and am finally

The loves of my life...amd they all have dolls or soon will!

I have always loved dolls and have collected off and on over the years. My own collection is

varied, from Madame Alexander to Goetz dolls, but I have always been very particular about

the facial expression.  Even in stuffed animals, the look must be "just right".  I pride myself

on being a perfectionist in my work and am quite comfortable with the dolls I ship out for "adoption". 

I began "reborning" about 9 years ago, but not with baby dolls.  The Berenguer and

Berjusa dolls are great to work on because they have such cute expressions..I use other

brands as well, because the value comes from their unique individuality and quality of

workmanship. They truly look and FEEL real.  I love the challenge of turning an old play doll

into a beautiful, lifelike baby look alike! I have had people write my license number down

when witnessing me pulling the dolls out of my car in baskets!  A gentleman once waited by

my car to reprimand me for leaving a child in the back seat!  He ended up adopting one of

my dolls,  Lilly, for his wife!

People will e-mail me photos of their children, grandchildren, nephews, neices and I will choose the

 face I deem best suited to match.  I then match the skin coloring, eyes and hair to includes clefts,

dimples and appropriate specialty looks and make a baby very much like their own - weight and length included!

 I am the School Site Data Coordinator at one of Vista's High Schools and spend my evenings rooting hair or painting legs.  I have always been an "artist"and am so happy to have finally found my niche! Quite a few  doll collectors have already purchased from me and my dolls are displayed in Several boutiques and shops worldwide!  Many can be purchased through various boutiques in the Southern California area (see "Locations" page) or just give a call and I'll meet you! I have met the most wonderful people through making these dolls and the repairs to others' dolls that I do.

I would love to give my dolls away..and actually have, but it's not worth the wrath of my wonderful Scottish husband, so I sell them for a little bit above my costs.
